Our club wanted to remind you that we will be having our Fall Lacrosse Clinics the four Sundays before the Fall time change. Please place these dates on your calendars, so you can be sure to join us this Fall season.

We will hold these two hour clinics on Sunday afternoons on October 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th. These clinics provide new players the opportunity to come out and try the sport prior to our regular Spring season that normally runs from mid-January to late-April. Our club will be providing equipment to new players during these clinics, so families don't have to make a large investment to come out and try the sport. For experienced players, we will be splitting the clinic time between skills and field scrimmages.

We look forward to a new school year, the Fall weather, and the opportunity to meet new and old lacrosse friends.

Here is our flyer for the Fall Clinics. Please forward onto to all your friends and other prospective players.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF INFORMED CONSENT OF CONCUSSION RISK

Effective July 1st, 2012 Florida Statute 943.0438 requires the parent or guardian and the youth who is participating in athletic competition or who is a candidate for an athletic team to sign and return an informed consent that explains the nature and risk of concussion and head injury, each year before participating in athletic competition or engaging in any practice, tryout, workout, or other physical activity associated with the youth’s candidacy for an athletic team. The Facts:

  • A concussion is a brain injury.
  • All concussions are serious.
  • Concussions can occur without the loss of consciousness.
  • Concussions can occur in any sport.
  • Recognition and proper management of concussions when they first occur can help prevent further injury or even death.

What is a concussion? A concussion is an injury that changes how the cells in the brain normally work. a concussion is caused by a blow to the head or body which causes the brain to move rapidly inside the skull. Even a “Ding”, “Getting your bell rung”, or what seems like a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious. Concussions can also result from a fall or players colliding with each other or obstacles, such as a goal post, even if they do not directly hit their head. To help recognize a concussion, you should watch for the following signs in your athletes:

  1. A forceful blow to the head or body that results in rapid movement of the head. -and-
  2. Any change in the athlete’s behavior, thinking, or physical functioning.

Signs and symptoms of concussion that may be reported by a coach or other observer:

  • Appears dazed or stunned.
  • Is confused about assignment or position.
  • Forgets sports plays.
  • Is unsure of game, score, or opponent.
  • Moves clumsily.
  • Answers questions slowly.
  • Loses consciousness(even briefly)
  • Can’t recall events prior to hit or fall.

Signs and symptoms that may be reported by the player:

  • Headache or pressure in the head.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Balance problems or dizziness.
  • Double or blurry vision.
  • Sensitivity to light.
  • Sensitivity to noise.
  • Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy.
  • Concentration or memory problems.
  • Confusion.
  • Does not feel right.

Both parents/guardians and players are highly advised to take the Center for Disease Control’s free online concussion training at http://www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/Training/HeadsUpConcussion.html

Under Florida law the player who is suspected of having a concussion or head injury must be removed from play or practice. Before the player may return to practice or competition a written medical clearance to return stating the athlete no longer exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion or other head injury must be received from an appropriate health care professional trained in the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of concussions. In Florida, an appropriate health care professional (AHCP) is defined as either licensed physician(MD as per Chapter458, Florida Statutes) a licensed physicians assistant under the supervision of a MD/DO (as per Chapters 458.347 and 459.022, Florida statutes) or a health care professional trained in the management of concussions.

Wesley Chapel Jamboree - This Saturday (2/16) at Wesley Chapel

Each team will have 4 games.

Here is some information from the Jamboree Organizers.

We had to make several changes to accommodate all of the teams that decided to come.  Our thought process with this Jamboree was for teams to play as many teams as possible as opposed to just 2 teams.  Every team should have at least 4 games at 25 minutes each, with a central horn.

Changes:

  • Price for each team will be $120.00, which includes at least 4 games per team.  There is going to be a central check-in area where we will take the payment between fields 2 and 3.  Please handle prior to the start of your games.  The check is payable to WCAA.  This price is for referees and trainers.
  • Each game will be 25 minutes in length with a running clock.  No timeouts.  We will play according to US Lacrosse rules for each level.
  • Each teams must provide their own team balls, at least 6 per game.
  • Each team must bring their own bench water. (We don't have enough volunteers to handle this task)
  • The home team listed for each game must provide a volunteer to run the timer

Here is the final Schedule.

Dragons Photos this Saturday before games

You can find the ordering form here.

All,

We will be doing team and individual photos. We are starting early before the kids get all sweaty. You should have recieved packets form your son or daughter tonight. If you didn't then come Thursday for a packet. Special Thanks to Anna Wiggers for setting this up. Should you have any specific questions call Anna  727 510 8957.

  • U11 - Stills begin at 7:45 and the TEAM will shoot at 8:15
  • U13- Stills begin at 8:25 and the Team will shoot at 8:45
  • U15 - Stills will shoot at 10:30 and the Team will shoot at 10:45

This is a VERY tight shooting schedule but we can manage it if we can keep the photographer behind the camera and the rest of us keep the kids organized. Anna will help expedite the envelopes and the pay part should go fast. They have one of those scanner things for the phone.

The volunteer parent will be holding a white board with the players name on it and watching over the line waiting to shoot. It's going to be very similar to recent years.

We should have no issues. If players do not make the team picture for any reason, he can shoot individuals any time while he's there. He will be coming to another set of games to get all the action shots so stills could be taken at that time to tho the team picture will not be repeated.

Prospectove reshoot date is March 2nd at the South Tampa game.

A volunteer form has been sent out as well to help our team run smoothly. Please help out where you can.
